Description

Astronomy.- Piazzi (Giuseppe) Della Specola Astronomica de' Regi Studi di Palermo..., first edition, 4 folding engraved plates, lightly spotted, original limp boards, uncut, neat paper reinforcements to spine ends, else a very excellent example, folio, Palermo, Reale Stamperia, 1792.

Piazzi's account of the astronomical instruments he had commissioned and assembled for Palermo Observatory, which he established. This is where he made the observations that led to his discovery, on January 1, 1801, of the minor planet Ceres. Piazzi published two additional parts of this work, but without plates, in 1794 and 1806 (the last part being exceptionally rare).
