India Ancient and Modern, 2 vol., chromolithographed decorative dedication heightened with gold, 50 chromolithographed plates after Simpson mounted on thin card, light spotting to tissue guards, vol.1 broken and loose with some plates soiled and frayed/chipped at edges, one plate with slight adhesions from guard, vol.2 with a few plates loose, contemporary half morocco, g.e., rubbed, vol.1 worn and upper cover & spine detached, large folio, Day & Son, 1867.

⁂ Simpson arrived in Calcutta in October 1859, having been commissioned to illustrate a work on India. Over three years he visited much of the subcontinent, including the Himalayas, Kashmir, Ceylon, Tibet and its Buddhist temples.
