Kaye's The Far Pavilions, "I hope to ask a few of the Jaipur chums here for a little party later on" and declining to come to the premiere "[I] don't feel those occasions are for me - but I so look forward to seeing the epic very soon in the privacy of my own parlour", creasing, a couple of short tears, 1982-83; and a copy of Hamlet, also inscribed to Duffell "happy memory of our Indian love-lyric, form an old ex-Hamlet", v.s. (4)

⁂ Gielgud and Duffell worked together on the television mini-series adaptation of The Far Pavilions. Inserted in the copy of Hamlet is included the programme to Gielgud's 1944 production of Hamlet, one of his most famous and likely the performance to which he alludes in the inscription.
