Italian Waste Book, manuscript on paper, in Italian, Fermo (Marche region), 1658-1717.
Estimate: £300 - 400
Description
Italian Waste Book, manuscript on paper, in Italian, 63 leaves (3 leaves largely cut away, 4 leaves blank), written in different 17th- and 18th-century hands, browning and staining throughout, disbound, some leaves loose, 8vo, 189-198 x 132mm., Fermo (Marche region), 1658-1717.
⁂ An interesting pocket waste book produced in the Italian city of Fermo, in the Marche region. It records in cursory manner different transactions, payments in scudi and baiocchi (the currency circulating in the Papal States at the time), receipts, deeds, contracts, sales, work done, and other financial matters, in all likelihood subsequently transcribed into more formal account books.
The records were written between 29 June 1658 and 10 April 1717 by various administrators in the service of the Evangelista, or Evangelisti family, members of the aristocracy of Fermo since 1547. This waste book also provides information on other municipalities nearby, such as Monte Urano, or Ponzano, and of particular significance is the information about financial transactions and deeds relating to monasteries in the locality.
