Africa.- Plowden (Walter Chichele) Travels in Abyssinia and the Galla Country with an Account of a Mission to Ras Ali in 1848, edited by Trevor Chichele Plowden, first edition, half-title, 2 folding maps with partial hand-colouring, 24pp. publishers' catalogue at end (final leaf spotted), light staining to lower outer corner at beginning affecting corner of one map, otherwise a clean copy, modern half morocco, uncut, 8vo, 1868.
⁂ Scarce. Plowden (1820-1860) was appointed the first British Consul in Abyssinia in 1848 and was killed by a rebel chief, causing the Emperor Theodore to slaughter 2000 people in retaliation.
