Description

Africa.- Thomson (Joseph) Through Masai Land: A Journey of Exploration among the Snowclad Volcanic Mountains and Strange Tribes of Eastern Equatorial Africa, first American edition, half-title, wood-engraved frontispiece and illustrations, 2 folding colour maps at end, hole to margin of p.41, hinges worn, original pictorial olive green cloth, gilt, slightly rubbed and marked, [Czech p.164], 8vo, Boston, 1885.

⁂ "One of the great African travel epics." (Czech) During the expedition Thomson was gored by a buffalo and suffered malaria and dysentery but also discovered a new species of gazelle, subsequently named after him.
