I wish you all success against the Trilby pirates, but fear it will be good money thrown after bad" loosely inserted, very occasional scattered spotting, very slight browning to endpapers, bookplate tipped onto vol.1 front free endpaper, original buff pictorial cloth blocked and lettered in blue, some very light foxing to upper covers, a near-fine copy, housed in chemises and morocco-backed slip-case, [Sadleir 1675; Wolff 1952], 8vo, Osgood, McIIvaine, 1894.
⁂ A superb example of the true first edition of one of the most popular books of the Victorian era, rare in such bright condition. Trilby's popularity was due in large part to the stage play that debuted in the same year and is now best remembered for character of the sinister hypnotist Svengali.
