The second of their real existence, 2 parts in 1, fourth and best edition, general title printed in red and black, engraved frontispiece and 2 plates, 2 final advertisement ff., 'Some account of the author's life and writings' (2A2-2A4) misbound after general title, some water-staining (see in particular sigs. R and S), occasional spotting, lightly browned, contemporary mottled calf, gilt, spine in compartments and with remains of morocco label, joints splitting, but holding firm, spine ends and corners worn, rubbed, [ESTC T103255], 8vo, Printed for A. ⁂ Fourth and best edition of this important work on witches, ghosts, demons and other paranormal occurrences. The work confirms their existence and attacks scepticism of their abilities. It also contains an early tale on poltergeists and one of the earliest descriptions of a 'witch bottle' to protect against witchcraft.
