Suite du Recueil des Planches, 43 plates only (?of 46) and descriptive text, all mounted on stubs, a few marginal repairs to text, ink inscription to free endpaper, Jacques d'Aguilar bookplate, modern half calf, [Nissen ZBI 4622], [Paris], [Diderot et d'Alembert], [c.1762] § Schweigger (August Friedrich) Beobachtungen auf naturhistorischen Reisen. ⁂ The first mentioned includes plates, mostly of marine life, with 11 plates on insects, including 'le pou (louse) vu au microscope' and 'la puce (flea) vue au microscope'. On the free endpaper is inscribed in contemporary manuscript: "Encyclopédie. 46 planches d'histoire naturelle: poissons crustacés coquilles rayonnés insectes polype le pou et la puce grossis (toutes les planches sont de magnifiques épreuves des premiers tirages) Duméril'. The plates are numbered 51-93.
August Friedrich Schweigger (1783-1821) was a German naturalist. He remained several years in Paris where he became associated with scientists such as G. Cuvier, Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, and C. Duméril. He was murdered in Sicily during a field excursion at the age of 38.
