⁂ The first mentioned, a charming and nicely illustrated early monograph of the birds of Sardinia, is divided into land and water birds. Francesco Cetti (1726-1778) was a Jesuit priest; he was sent to Sardinia to help improve the standard of education on the island. In 1766, he was appointed to the Chair of Mathematics at the University of Sassari. Cetti is commemorated in the name of the Cetti's Warbler 'Cettia cetti'.
