Plants of Western Japan.- Japanese scroll.- [Chûshoto okonomi no bunezu], large scroll depicting 62 species of plants of Western Japan, watercolour and bodycolour, some heightened with white, with Japanese calligraphy around image, a few small chips at margins, mounted on wooden roller, endpaper decorated with gilt flecks and backed with silk (rubbed and slightly frayed), modern cloth tie, approx. 11,500mm x 260mm, housed in a modern wooden box, [Japan], [late-18th - early-19th century].
⁂ A fine and unusually long, beautiful scroll illustrating Japanese flowers, foliage, and roots and occasionally details of plants. Each depiction, beautifully painted and heightened with white, measures 260 x 1750 mm.
