Hart, mostly lithographed by Richter and Hart, list of subscribers, Henry Rogers Broughton and E.Cubitt bookplates, handsome contemporary full green morocco, richly gilt, a couple of small nicks to spine ends, g.e., [Fine Bird Books, p.78; Nissen 372; Wood p.365; Zimmer p.261], folio, by the author, 1862-1873.

This work is known as "the most sumptuous and costly of British bird books" (Mullens and Swann). Richard Bowdler Sharpe said of the work: "Such beautiful illustrations...scarcely existed before and are not likely to be surpassed".
