[Manuscript prospectus for 'Histoire des Hypoxylons descriptions des genres et des espèces...histoire des Graphidées and 51 original watercolours], 5pp. manuscript in French, engraved portrait of Chevallier (chipped and frayed at head and foot) and 3 proof plates (foxed), 51 handsome watercolours, of which 43 signed 'P.Duménil, all but 2 neatly bordered in ink, occasional light spotting or surface staining, hole punch to margins, approx. 200 x 120mm - 340 x 250mm, [Paris], [early1800s].

François Fulgis Chevallier (1796-1840) was a French botanist and author of two mycological books and popular flora of Paris. He intended to publish 20 parts of his Histoire des Hypoxlons, however only 4 parts with 21 plates were published between 1824 and 1827.
Paul Chrétien Romain Constant Duménil (1779-1859) was a natural history painter; Nissen lists 32 works with illustrations by Duménil.
