Embroidered binding.- Königl. Groß-Brittannischer und Churfürstl. Braunschweig-Lüneburgscher Staats-Kalender auf das Jahr 1798, woodcut royal arms to title, light green glazed endpapers, contemporary embroidered boards, upper cover with central cypher of King George III in silver, red, and black threads, lower cover with central vignette depicting a basket of flowers resting on a tree branch in pink, white and light and dark green silk threads, both on silver thread background and within an outer floral border of green and pink threads with inner star corner-pieces, rebacked in cream cloth over boards in compartments, worn, but solid, housed in a modern burgundy buckram drop-back box, rubbed and marked, 8vo (180 x 108mm.), Lauenburg, Berenberg, 1798. sold as a binding and not subject to return.
⁂ A similar binding on a 1799 Lauenberg Staats-Kalender was sold by Sotheby's, The Property of the Dowager Viscountess Wolseley, of Hampton Court Palace, Middlesex, 17th October, 1918, described as 'for K. George III, by one of his daughters'.
