Davidischer Lust und Blumen Garten, 150 engraved plates (on 75ff.), abrasion to title (removal of ink-stamp), some marginal wormholes to first half, contemporary vellum, armorial stamp of Maximilien Pagli to upper cover, a few wormholes, oblong 4to, Nuremberg, [c.1710].

Very rare florilegium. Library Hub records only one copy, held by the Royal Horticultural Society Libraries.

This work is based on Wolfgang Helmhard von Hohberg's 'Lust und Artzeney-Garten des Königlichen Propheten Davids'. Johann Christoph Weigel was a German engraver and publisher. The Latin and German names of the plants are placed above the illustrations and at the foot a line from the Psalms of David is followed by 4 lines of poetry. The illustrations are splendid and belong to the finest made of the period. Nürnberg was the centre for fine natural history art and book productions. Maria Sibylla Merian lived in Nürnberg from 1670 to 1682 and her 'Neues Blumenbuch' was published there in 1680 and Barbara Regina Dietsch was one of the many botanical artists.
