Trees.- Mascall (Leonard) A Booke of the Arte and maner how to Plant..., and Graffe all sortes of Trees, fourth edition, collation: A-P4, largely printed in black letter, title with woodcut vignette, woodcut illustrations (including full-page on C4, woodcut initials and decorations), Abel Berland bookplate, later panelled calf by Sangorski and Sutcliffe for Brentano's, gilt, red morocco labels to spine, g.e., [ESTC S112419; Fussell I p.9; Henrey I p.258; STC 17576], 4to, Imprinted at London, for Jhon Wight, 1582.

⁂ A rare early treatise on fruit trees, tree planting and crafting. Mascall helped establish the pippin apple in the orchard of his home in Sussex. The first English edition was published in 1569 and together eight editions appeared in the 16th century. Most of the work is a translation of 'l'Art & maniere de semer & faire pepinieres des sauvageaux' by Brossard, a French Benedictine monk.
