Herbal.- Costeo (Giovanni) De Universalis Stirpium natura libri duo, first edition, collation: *4 A-Z4 Aa-Zz4 Aaa-Sss4, slight worming to first 2 ff. affecting 1 or 2 letters and small stain to title, contemporary limp vellum, later labels to spines, a few wormholes to upper cover, [Not in Adams; Hunt 131; EDIT16 CNCE 13637], 4to, Turin, apud haer. Niccolò Bevilacqua, 1578.
⁂ An important early work on botanical theory, reflecting the influence of Theophrastus. Costeo discusses the generation of plants, the differences of species, plant nutrition, and various other topics. Costeo (d.1603), an Italian physician, was editor of texts by Avicenna, Galen and Yuhanna, and instrumental in the appreciation of Arabic contributions to medicine and science.
