Marine Life.- Bianchi (Giovanni Paolo Sim.), "Janus Plancus". De Conchis minus notis liber, second edition, engraved title vignette and 24 plates, contemporary green vellum, red morocco label to spine, some splitting to joints but holding firm, [Nissen ZBI 356], 4to, Rome, in aedibus Palladis, 1760.
⁂ The first edition appeared in 1739 with a much shorter text and five plates only. Bianchi (1693-1775) was a physician, scientist and polymath from Rimini. The fine plates show marine animals of the Adriatic Sea, such as shells and crustaceans. The book also gives one of the earliest descriptions of foraminifera, which were collected by the author on the beach at Rimini.
