Botany.- Orchids.- du Petit-Thouars (Louis-Marie Aubert) Histoire particuliere des Plantes Orchidées recueillies sur les trois îles Australes d'Afrique de France de Bourbon et de Madagascar, first edition, 110 engraved plates, 2 folding tables, light foxing, mostly to text, Henry Rogers Broughton bookplate, later green morocco, gilt, edges uncut, [Nissen BBI 564; Stafleu & Cowan 1586], 8vo, Paris, 1822.

A fine copy of one of the rarest works on orchids. It is also the first illustrated monograph on orchids, and most likely the first work on African orchids. Aubert Du Petit-Thouars (1758-1831) was a well-known French botanist and traveller. Both Nissen and Pritzel only call for 108 plates.
