Insects.- Barbut (James) Les Genres des Insectes de Linne, first edition, additional engraved title and 20 plates only (of 22, lacking 2 plain plates), all hand-coloured, 1 folding, text in French and English in double columns, bookplates, contemporary calf, red morocco label to spine, slight chipping to spine ends, a little rubbed, [ESTC T87004; Nissen ZBI 220], 4to, Jacques Dixwell, 1781.
⁂ James Barbut (fl.1776-1799) was a British naturalist and painter. He exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The original drawings for the above work were purchased by the Natural History Museum in London in 2000. The delicately hand-coloured plates depict 299 insects.
