Insects.- Rossi (Pietro) Fauna Etrusca sistens Insecta quae in Provinciis Florentina et Pisana Praesertim Collegit, 2 vol., first edition, 2 engraved frontispieces, hand-coloured engraved dedication and 10 hand-coloured plates, typed ownership sticker pasted to foot of titles, hinges cracked but holding, contemporary half calf, later red and green morocco spine labels, extremities a little worn, edges uncut, [Nissen ZBI 3482], 4to, Liburni, Thomas Masi & Sociorum, 1790.

*** An attractive Italian entomological work and the most beautiful publication on the insects of Etruria, printed on light blue paper. Pietro Rossi (1738-1804) was professor at the University of Pisa and the world's first Professor of Entomology. His publications, particularly the 'Fauna Etrusca' and the 'Mantissa insectorum', are considered as pioneer achievements of entomology.

Rare. We can trace only 2 examples at auction in the past 20 years with all engraved plates and frontispieces present.
