Pomology.- Knoop (Johann Hermann) Beschrijving en Afbeeldingen van de Beste soorten van Appelen en Peeren, 3 vol. in 1, 39 engraved folding hand-coloured plates, one with short tear at fold, contemporary half calf, skilfully rebacked retaining much of original backstrip, rubbed, edges uncut, [Nissen BBI 1077], folio, Amsterdam [&] Dordrecht, Allart, Holtrop et al., 1770.
⁂ Famous work on pomology and fruit trees, the first monographs published with colour plates on this subject. The 3 parts were published together. Very popular, it was re-edited several times and translated into French and German. Johann Hermann Knoop (1700-1769) was head gardener to the Dowager Princess of Orange at Marienburg near Leeuwarden.
