Botany.- de Garsault (François Alexandre Pierre) Description, Vertus et Usages de Sept Cents Dix-Neuf Plantes..., 6 vol., 3 engraved titles and 729 engraved plates, a few with hand-colouring, a few paper flaws, contemporary French mottled calf, gilt, red morocco label to spines, slightly rubbed, [Nissen BBI 687; Stafleu & Cowan 1961], 8vo, Paris, 1767.
⁂ A beautifully bound copy of the rare complete set. Garsault (1691-1778) was a French botanical artist and naturalist. He wrote several works on horses of which 'Le Nouveau Parfait Maréchal' is best known. The plates of the present work are all engraved by him. The first 5 volumes of plates were first published in June 1764; the text volume was first published in 1765 titled 'Explication abrégée. In 1767, the two were reissued under this title.
Plates 1-643 depict plants, while the remainder depict animals.
