The Natural Order of Gerania, 5 vol., first edition, including supplement, 500 hand-coloured engraved plates, portion of loss to vol.2 p.159 outer margin, Henry Rogers Broughton and Thomas Daniell bookplates, contemporary diced calf, neatly rebacked, gilt spines with black morocco labels, [Dunthorne 292; Nissen BBI 1926], 8vo, 1820-30.
⁂ A beautifully bound set of one of the most attractive works on Geraniums. Robert Sweet (1783-1835) was a horticulturist, nurseryman and author. He published some beautifully illustrated works such as the 'British Flower Garden' and the 'Flora Australasica'. The present work on Geraniums was illustrated by Edwin Dalton Smith and engraved by S. Watts. Smith 'a more considerable artist of small-scale work' according to Blunt illustrated several other works by Sweet as well as Maund's 'Botanic Garden'.
