Estimate: £400 - 600

Description

Cornwall.- Carew (Richard) The Survey of Cornwall, new edition, half-title present but lacking title and preliminaries, lacking leaves numbered 55, 56, 60, 97, much of 124 & final 2ff., also pp.11-(14) of the Epistle at end, extensive manuscript corrections, additions and deletions, many of the notes initialed "T.T.", few tears, many ff. loose and frayed at extremities, contemporary calf-backed bare boards (lacking marbled paper covering), 4to, [for B. Law, in Ave-Mary-Lane; and J. Hewett, at Penzance], [1769]; sold not subject to return.

⁂ Carew's Survey was first published in 1602, followed by editions in 1723 and, the edition here, in 1769. The annotations are probably associated with Rev. There are similar indications of "C. 9" etc. in volumes associated with one or other (or both) of these two gentlemen at Kresen Kernow in Redruth and the Royal Institution of Cornwall in Truro.
