Coleridge (Sara).- Nash (Edward) Portrait of Sara Coleridge seated, with Lake District landscape beyond, point of the brush, watercolour, pencil under-drawing, signed and dated 'EN 1816' in the lower right corner, 235 x 190 mm (9 1/4 x 7 1/2 in), some toning to the sheet with minor spots in the clouds, framed, 1816

⁂ Fine portrait of a young Sara Coleridge, the English author, translator and daughter of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his wife Sara Fricker. Edward Nash (1778-1821) was well known for his portrait miniatures. Nash was a friend of Robert Southey and stayed on numerous occasions at his house. A painting by Nash of Edith May Warter, Southey’s daughter, and Sara Coleridge, is held by the National Portrait Gallery.
