Rowlandson (Thomas) "The Carter and the Gipsies", an original drawing for the etched caricature, point of the brush and ink, watercolour, sheet 150 x 235 mm (5 7/8 x 9 1/4 in), laid onto card support, even toning, sun exposure marks and surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1815]; together with a contemporary impression of the etching, hand-coloured, 245 x 350 mm (9 5/8 x 13 3/4 in), under glass, framed, 1815 (2)
⁂ The present drawing appears to be a preliminary study for the etched satirical print by Rowlandson, published by Thomas Tegg in 1815, with an impression of this print included in the lot. Unrecorded in the the British Museum Satires catalogue.
