Mathematics.- Blue paper copy.- Euclid. De gli Elementi, collation: *2, **4, ***2, A-ZZ4, AAa-ZZz4, AAAa2 complete, woodcut initials, diagrams throughout, D3 with patch of browning and light staining, signatures 2T and 2U misbound, some foxing and occasional light water-stians, but generally a clean and excellent copy, 17th century limp vellum, gilt, g.e., soiled, spine worn, [Adams E-995], folio (306 x 210mm.), Urbino, Appresso Domenico Frisolino, 1575.
⁂ Rare deluxe copy on blue paper of the first edition of the Italian translation of Euclid's Elements. Copies of sixteenth-century scientific works on blue paper are unusual and most likely intended for presentation.
We can trace only one other copy on blue paper of this work, sold in these rooms 12 July 2018, lot 40 for £11,000.
