Joly (Robert, binder), "Joly fils".- [Dufresny (Charles)] Amusemens Serieux et Comiques, first edition, title with woodcut ornament, woodcut tail-pieces, occasional light browning, the Abbey copy with engraved armorial bookplate, bound in striking citron morocco, by Joly Fils, covers with quintuple gilt fillet surrounding panel of inlaid geometrical shapes in red & olive morocco and elaborately tooled in gilt, spine gilt in compartments with similar decoration, red morocco label and five raised bands, inner gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, g.e., signed at foot of front turn-in, preserved in dark brown morocco silk-lined bookbox (very slight rubbing to edges and small mark to upper cover), 12mo (binding c.155 x 90mm.), Paris, Claude Barbin, 1699.
⁂ Robert Joly (c.1870-1924) succeeded his father Antoine (1838-1917) in the family business established by Antoine after he left the employment of Léon Gruel. Both Antoine and Robert were excellent gilders.
