Theatre Playbills.- [Collection of c.300 playbills for the Princess's Theatre], a broken run, one or two with inscriptions, occasional soiling, staining, or browning, some occasional tearing, fraying and chipping, sometimes affecting or with loss to text, creases, unbound, v.s.,1846-56.
⁂ Princess's Theatre under the management of Charles Kean, and Robert Keeley, was celebrated for having performances of authentic Shakespeare plays, of which a few are mentioned within the playbills, such as: 'Hamlet', 'Merchant of Venice', 'King John', 'Much Ado About Nothing', and 'The Winter's Tale'. A few of the playbills also include announcements from Charles Kean in relation to the plays advertised, such as Sheridan's 'Pizarro' and Byron's 'Sardanapalus'. This collection also reflects the success of plays which had long runs, such as Boucicault's 'Vampire, a Phantasm', and 'Marco Spada'.
