Percy (Charlotte, Duchess of Northumberland, 1787-1866) The Toilette Table, manuscript title, 17 illustrations, pen and ink, watercolour, some heightened with gold, trimmed at head a few times shaving manuscript pagination, contemporary red velvet with gilt border, small stains to head of upper cover, small chip to head of spine, some wear to joints, g.e., 106 x 90mm., [c.1850].

⁂ The provenance is taken from a manuscript note loosely inserted, which explains "Painted by Charlotte Duchess of Northumberland...NB. one or two of the 'objets d'art' finished by Miss ?Mary ?Macgregor 1850". The work is of a moral or instructive nature, each object of the toilette accompanied by a virtue.

Lady Charlotte Florentia Clive, second daughter of Edward, 1st Earl of Powis, married Hugh Percy, 3rd Duke of Northumberland in 1817. She was appointed State Governess to Princess Victoria in 1831 to accompany her on public occasions.
