Churchill (Sir Winston Spencer) The River War, An Historical Account of the Reconquest of the Soudan, 2 vol., first edition, second state with typographical correction to vol. 2 p.459, half-titles, 7 photogravure portraits including 2 frontispieces, maps (20 folding), illustrations, without the advertisements at end of vol.1, contemporary ownership inscription to vol. 1 half-title & vol. 2 front free endpaper, some spotting, mainly to fore-edge, hinges cracked and little tender, with vol. 1 front free endpaper working loose, original pictorial cloth, gilt, vol. 1 very small and light stain to foot of upper cover, a little rubbed, mainly to spine ends and corners, [Woods A2a], 8vo, London, New York and Bombay, 1899.
⁂ An excellent copy of Churchill's second book. He served in the 21st Lancers and was part of the last great cavalry charge of the British Army.
