London, Shoreditch.- Ellis (Sir Henry) The History and Antiquities of the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch, and the Liberty of Norton Folgate, in the the suburbs of London, 3 vol., extra-illustrated by the insertion of c. 300 items including engravings (some folding, a few linen-backed), portraits, ephemera and autograph items including: Henry Ellis (2), Samuel Whitbread, John Wilkes, Horace Walpole, autograph signatures of Robert Vyner, Robert Aske, Thomas Bloodworth and John Hobby together on a slip of paper, Vincent Lunardi (balloonist) on a separate slip, manuscript of Shoreditch Statistics, some newspaper cuttings, many items laid in or laid down, some cut down, red morocco bookplates of W. A. Foyle on front pastedowns, later half red morocco, gilt, corners rubbed and bumped, t.e.g., others uncut, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, 4to (280 x 210mm.), J. Nichols, 1798.

Wilkes (John, English radical journalist and politician, magistrate, essayist and soldier, Lord Mayor of London, 1725-97) Document Signed, ‘John Wilkes’, concerning blood money in settlement of £40 for the assault and robbery by Charles Whittle of William Watlington in the Parish of St Leonard’s Shoreditch, 6th May 1774, manuscript on vellum, countersigned by Sergeant Glynn (recorder), some soiling, one page, docketed, 230 x 310 mm., 12th July 1775.

(2). Engraved portrait of Garrick as Romeo, etched by T. Paurland, 1851 (one of 20 copies executed).

(3). Engraving of a View of Lunardi's Balloon Ascent from the Artillery Ground (with his autograph).
