Ireland.- Roget (John Lewis, 1828-1908) Collection of 52 landscape studies from a Tour of Ireland, black chalk, pencil, the majority heightened with white, all signed with initials and inscribed with date and location in ink, neatly presented onto 32 loose album sheets, various sizes between 60 x 50 mm (2 1/4 x 2 in) and 250 x 175 mm (9 3/4 x 6 7/8 in), the album leaves each approx. 270 x 375 mm (10 5/8 x 14 3/4 in), some minor spotting and surface dirt, loose, presented in contemporary portfolio, spine broken and detached, worn, folio, [circa 1850]; together with a group of 53 original ink illustrations of Irish figures, possibly encountered by Roget on his tour but possibly executed by another hand, neatly presented over six loose album leaves, one sheet inscribed in ink 'Recollections of Ireland in 1850', pen and black inks, some pencil, many inscribed and dated, each album leave approx. 260 x 350 mm (10 1/4 x 13 3/4 in), some minor browning and surface dirt, all unframed, [circa 1850]

⁂ Many of the landscapes executed by Roget are from the Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry, Ireland, including the Eagles Nest, Gap of Dunloe, O'Sullivan's Cascade, the Lower Lake Killarney, with others from Co. Cork, and Co. Wicklow.
