Chaucer (Geoffrey) The Workes of Geffray Chaucer newlye printed, double column, black letter, 3 divisional titles within woodcut architectural borders (that for Canterbury Tales (B1) misbound at start), woodcut illustrations and decorative initials, lacking general title (A1), A2 (Preface), majority of penultimate f. 2T5 (missing section provided in facsimile) and final f. 2T6 (provided in facsimile), Canterbury Tales divisional title with repaired mostly marginal tears (without loss), A3 (Table) repaired with loss of text, U1 piece from outer margin (with loss of a few letters), sigs. DD-II upper inner corners with small area of tearing / fraying, sometimes affecting text, sig. SS marginal repairs, occasionally affecting the odd letter, sig. TT chips / repaired tears at head, affecting text (particularly TT3&4), some tears (D6 large within text, but without loss; R5 large within text with loss of several letters), repairs, small wormholes (mostly at ends), water- / damp-stained, some spotting and staining (Ii6v & Kk1r red staining, text still legible), lightly browned, later endpapers, 18th century calf, gilt (the original faded / rubbed and with some recent rules) spine in compartments and with modern to style red morocco label, joints split, but holding firm, worn, but solid, [STC 5069 or 5070], folio, [Printed by [Richard Grafton for] Wyllyam Bonham] or [Printed by [Richard Grafton for] Iohn Reynes], [1542].
