Braithwait (Richard) The English Gentleman: containing Sundry excellent Rules or exquisite Observations, tending to Direction of every Gentleman..., first edition, first issue without 'Three Choice Characters of Marriage' section at end, fine engraved additional pictorial title by Robert Vaughan, accompanying double-page explanatory leaf bound after letterpress title (often lacking), woodcut initials and head-pieces, with errata f. but lacking final blank 3N4 at end, 2S1&2 supplied from another copy, explanatory f. washed with faded early ownership inscriptions to verso and few neatly repaired tears (loss to few letters), few neat marginal repairs including to letterpress title upper corner, occasional passage-marking in ink, the odd ink- or other stain, including some light smudged ink marks to additional title, some light water- or damp-staining, trimmed close at head at points affecting few ruled-borders, first few ff. starting to work loose at foot, handsomely bound in later tan morocco by Rivière, richly gilt, slight rubbing to lower cover and extremities, g.e., [STC 3563], small 4to, John Haviland, and are to be sold by Robert Bostock, 1630.
