Harvey (Gideon) The Vanities of Philosophy & Physick: Together with Directions and Medicines easily prepar'd by any of the least Skill, whereby to preserve Health, and prolong Life..., first edition, various ownership inscriptions to title and front free endpaper, some light damp-staining to lower corner, some other light staining and spotting, light browning, contemporary panelled mottled sheep, corners sometime repaired, small sticker to head of spine, corners and extremities worn, joints cracked, upper cover nearly loose, [Wing H1079], 8vo, for A. Roper and R. Basset, 1699.
⁂ Rare in commerce. Includes madness, diseases of the eyes and consumption. Harvey was a figure both colourful and controversial who managed to secure lucrative positions as physician to Charles II, and "Physician to the Tower" under William and Mary, while at the same time publishing vehement and personal attacks on the medical profession and somewhat disreputable medical books.
