China.- Compte (Louis Daniel de) Memoirs and Observations...Made in a late Journey Through the Empire of China, first edition in English, engraved portrait frontispiece, 3 engraved plates (2 double-page), one engraved vignette in text, folding letterpress table (laid down), ownership inscription "W. Lovell 1904" to pastedown, N8 stained with small hole affecting few letters, U1 tear into text repaired without loss, some spotting and light staining, some light browning, heavier to final Sig., later marbled boards, rebacked in modern calf, old spine label preserved, covers rubbed, endpapers renewed, [Wing L831], 8vo, for Benj. Tooke and Sam. Buckley, 1697.
⁂ Includes a fine double-page plate of the Peking Observatory. The last several pages are devoted to a detailed description of pearl fishing.
