Spain.- Sandoval (Prudencio de) The Civil Wars of Spain...put into English by Captain J[ames]. W[adsworth]., first edition in English, engraved portrait frontispiece of Charles 5th by Pierre Lombart (short tear and paper repair to verso but no loss), title printed in red and black, woodcut head-pieces and decorative initials, ink-stamp of Dublin Library Society to title verso (some show-through), 2I2 small marginal loss, 2M1 & 2T4 couple small paper-flaws affecting few letters, light soiling to peripheral few ff. and occasionally elsewhere, some light water-staining and browning, later blue half morocco over marbled boards, spine gilt but slightly faded, wear to corners, spine ends and upper joint, rubbed elsewhere, lower cover detached, [Wing S664], small folio, William Du Gard and are to bee [sic] sold by John Holden, 1652.
⁂ A major work by one of the most highly esteemed Spanish historians. Scarce, the last few copies we can trace at auction (2014, 2013 & 1975) all lacking the frontispiece portrait.
