India.- Blagdon (Francis William) A Brief History of Ancient and Modern India, 3 parts in 1, 2 additional engraved pictorial titles, hand-coloured stipple-engraved plate of Native Judges and portrait of Tippoo Sultan and 64 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates, damp-staining with consequential spotting and marginal discolouration, plate of Native Judges cockled but only slightly stained, titles with vertical crease, some light staining to text, bookplate of George Seton Veitch and ink inscription reading "Gredington Library 1811" to front pastedown, original boards with letterpress label on upper cover, uncut, sympathetically rebacked, rubbed and lightly damp-stained, lower board a little worn, preserved in modern cloth drop-back box with gilt-stamped brown morocco label, [Abbey, Travel 425; Tooley 93 & 275], oblong folio, 1805 [watermarked 1801].

⁂ One of the finest colour-plate books of India with superb views and scenes of everyday life. It was originally published in parts as "Picturesque Scenery in the Kingdom of Mysore" (1802-05) before being expanded upon with additional plates, from Daniell and Ward's "Twenty-Four Views in Hindostan" and published as a single volume in 1805.
