Chemistry.- Scheele (Carl Wilhelm) Chemische Abhandlung von der Lust und dem Feuer, first edition, engraved vignette on title, folding engraved plate, lacking half-title, title lower corner paper repair (just touching imprint), some light browning, contemporary boards, light wear to extremities, 8vo, Upsala and Leipzig, 1777.
⁂ A fundamental work on chemistry. Scheele's discovery of Oxygen (1773) and the completion of his manuscript (1775) were delayed in coming to print by awaiting Torbern Bergman to produce a preface, thus allowing Joseph Priestley to print the first account of the isolation of Oxygen. Scheele was nonetheless recognised as an experimental genius, whose discoveries were of paramount importance.
