Hong Kong.- Doran (Robert, of 18 Royal Irish, of Ely House, Wexford, Ireland, 1827-52) 3 Autograph Letters from Hong Kong to Mrs Doran, Miss Doran and his grandfather Robert Hughes, together 11pp. and address panels, 8vo & 4to, Victoria, Hong Kong, 23rd November 1844, 29th October 1845 & 27th November 1845, living at Hong Kong, "I was happy to be able to say that I find this a better place for living... than I at first imagines", dining on board HMS Agincourt, mentioning fighting pirates off the coast of Borneo, expecting the Imperial Commission next month etc., extensively cross-written, one letter tears along folds, browned, v.s., v.d. (3).

⁂ Written only two years after the Treaty of Nanking that ceded Hong Kong Island to the UK. Robert Doran was killed at the storming of the Great Pagoda at Rangoon in the second Anglo-Burmese War.
