Middle East.- Saadi, of Shiraz. Būstān [The Orchard], manuscript in Persian, 287pp., 16 fine miniatures, heightened with gilt, text within gilt, red and blue fillet borders, marginal repairs, occasional spotting or light staining, lightly browned, contemporary brown morocco, gilt, lower joint splitting, but holding firm, 1 corner worn, some soiling, rubbed, narrow small 4to (text block 249 x 139mm.), [c.1850].
Provenance: 'Edward Mullen, 50th Queen's Own Regiment, Lahore, 1st March 1846 - To his affectionate sister Harriet Chamberlain, September 1848 - Annabelle...Chamberlain from her fond mother Dec. 25th, 1864' (ink inscriptions in different hands to front free endpaper); 'The property of Charles Martin, Brownlow Street, London, from my dear brother Robert (Wally)' (?early 20th century ink inscription on card loosely inserted).
