Gill (Eric) The Skaters, first state, hand-coloured copper-engraving, initialled by the artist in pencil lower right, inscribed from the artist to Robert Gibbings and with later inscription from Gibbings to Evan Gill both to lower margin, spotted, surface creasing to upper half, 111 x 111mm., 1926.
⁂ The rare hand-coloured first state with a superb provenance, inscribed to fellow wood-engraver Robert Gibbings. Physick only records the second state (368, with the figures clothed) and we can trace no hand-coloured example at auction.
Provenance: From the collection of Evan Gill, purchased directly from the estate.
