Shakespeare.- Roget (John Lewis, art historian, son of the originator of the thesaurus, 1828-1908) [Journal of an art tour to Holland, Belgium and Paris], manuscript notes, 102pp. excluding blanks (87pp. Journal and 15pp. expenses), 7 pieces of ephemera loosely inserted including including a cabinet photograph of Roget, an autograph manuscript of “The Three Witches” adapted from Shakespeare, and “Time and the Hour: A Patchwork Poem in Shakespeare’s Words” printed with some side notes in ink, both by Roget, original marbled boards, paper label with manuscript title on upper cover, a few ink doodles on both boards, spine defective, 200 x 125mm., 1872.

Aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War. "The arcades of the Rue du Rivoli & de la Paix are chipped & knocked about, but patched in many places where there have been shot marks. The shops in the Rue du Rivoli contain illustrations, photographic & other, of the events of the war & communist insurrt. without reserve. A toy figure of a Prussian soldier laden with plunder, including clock & basket of champagne."
