Philosophy.- Popper (Karl) The Open Society and its Enemies, 2 vol., second edition, signed presentation inscription "To Lionel Robbins with kindest regards. February 6th 1952. K. R. Popper" to vol. 1 front free endpaper, some very light spotting and browning to endpapers (heavier to vol. 2), original cloth, spines a touch faded, vol. 1 very short tear to head of upper joint, some rubbing to spine ends, corners and joints, generally very light but heavier to few corners, 8vo, 1952.
⁂ An important association copy of Popper's vindication of liberal democracy, one of the most important cultural-philosophical works of the 20th century. Lionel Robbins (1898-1984) was an economist and prominent member of the economics department at the LSE. He and Popper were colleagues for over twenty years and formed a strong inter-departmental alliance, fortified by their mutual friendship with Friedrich von Hayek.
