Honble The Commander in Chief before Burhtpoor 17th December 1825, lithographed plan, watermarked 'T Edmonds', faint red stain verso, the odd spot, creased, 249 x 197mm., [Calcutta], [1825].
⁂ A Governor-General's copy of a rare early publication from the ALP (founded in 1823 by Englishmen). The East India Company's army besieged the fortress of Bharatpur from December, 1825 and captured it on 18th January, 1826. The Sirmoor Battalion (a precursor to the Royal Gurkha Rifles) played a prominent part in the victory.
Provenance: From the papers of William Pitt Amherst, 1st Earl Amherst (1773-1857), British diplomat and colonial administrator, who served as the Governor-General of the Presidency of Fort William from 1823 to 1828.
