Binding.- Bible, English.- Holy Bible (The), containing the Old and New Testaments, occasional light spotting and staining, details of children of Thomas Fermor, 4th Earl Pomfret in manuscript on vellum at beginning, maroon morocco by Hering, g.e., gilt arms of the Earls of Pomfret to board centres, gilt ruled borders, 5 raised spine bands, wide gilt inner dentelles, silken endpapers, housed in contemporary straight-grain morocco covered wooden dropback box, small lock retaining key, a little rubbed and scuffed, folio, Oxford, 1827.
⁂ A magnificent binding, beautifully preserved by the contemporary bible box, which was made to resemble a more plainly bound bible.
Provenance: Lieutenant-General Thomas Fermor, 4th Earl Pomfret with his his coat of arms to covers. Each of his four children listed at the beginning with dates and places of birth, Christening dates and their Godfathers and Godmothers. The first born, George William Richard Fermor (Baron Lempster) has HRH William, Prince of Orange listed as a Godfather.
