Tennis.- Markham (Gervase) Country Contentments: or, the Husbandmans Recreations, seventh edition, foxed and browned, corner of first few leaves stained, later calf, scratched, [Wing M261], 4to, Printed by W. Wilson, for E. Brewster, and George Sawbridge, 1654.
⁂ As well as the sections on hunting, hawking, coursing (with greyhounds) and angling, there is also mention of 'Tenise' - "a pastime in close or open Courts, striking a little round ball to or from, either with the palme of the hand, or with Racket."
