Marshall, engraved portrait frontispiece, supplied from a different Bacon work (small paper repair to blank inner margin), woodcut initials and ornaments, some light browning and minor staining, endpapers renewed, later diced Russia (?c.1800), rebacked in morocco and spine label renewed, gilt, [Gibson 141b; STC 1167.3], folio, Oxford, by Leonard Lichfield for Rob. Young and Ed. Forrest, 1640.
⁂ Provenance: Robert Walsingham Martin (1871-1961), whose renowned and important collection was known as the 'Davenport Library'. This book appeared as lot 227 in the 1963 Park-Bernet sale, 'The Distinguished Library of the late Robert W. Martin of New Rochelle' [bookplate].
